Time and energy are also needed to prepare for the interview, evening gown and talent portions of the pageant.  Love and her dancers rehearsed for three to four hours a day Sunday through Wednesday just for the talent portion.

Some of the most elaborate talent portions are major theatrical productions that have up to 30 back up dancers.  Other contestants will play instruments, do comedy, perform illusions- celebrity impersonations, sing and do high energy dance.

Taylor recalled preparing for the talent portion by traveling to and from Illinois to rehearse with her dancers on at least five occasions.

She also made all of the costumes for herself and her dancers and spent hours gluing rhinestones to her evening gown.

“Drag is different even to the homosexual community.  Most people think we do this for fun, but in reality some of us do it for a living and pay our bills doing it. So, we take it seriously,” said Taylor.
