Iowa City Art Galleries and Museums

AKAR Gallery: Check out this sculpture and ceramics gallery if you're looking for art with a modern feel. Akar features work from artists across the country, as well as England, Finland, Germany, and Japan. The gallery is also part architecture office, with designers available for consultations.

Arts Iowa City: Not only a gallery, Arts Iowa City offers artist mentoring and visual arts education. The gallery features the work of Iowa artists. Postimpressionism is a major component of the current exhibit.

 

Chait Galleries Downtown: For contemporary art in a variety of mediums, check out the Chait. Local artists, as well as those from around the world are featured. This gallery also offers framing and restoration.

Hudson River Gallery: Featuring art from local and regional artists, you can find anything from abstract art to realism at this gallery. Custom framing is also available.

Iowa Artisans Gallery: Specializing in work from more than 150 Midwestern artists, the gallery has a contemporary, yet country feel. Multiple mediums are featured, from painting to pottery.

 

University of Iowa Museum of Art
Recognized as one of the nations finest university art museums, the UI Museum of Art offers free admission to the more than 12,000 works of art. From Henri Matisse and Jackson Pollock, to Pablo Picasso and Georgia O'Keefe, the UiMA presents visitors with the opportunity to view some of the most influential collections in the country. School programs are offered, in addition to special tours and lectures.
